Hi All,

I had to call mobilo out yesterday as engine light came on.
Diagnostics revealed misfire on 9 and 10.
So he escorted me to local dealer who have it now for further investigation and will call me tomorrow with their findings.

Fear is it will be coil pack which on these engines is one long pack along each side of the engine. Mobilo tech warned me that coil packs are deep into 4 figures just for the part.

If dealer calls me tomorrow with a prohibitive cost, can I opt to decline the work and drive it the 80 miles home?
What damage will I do if I drive it with one or two cylinders misfiring?

Thanks for any info.

There are a few aftermarket companies in the states[ the land of the big petrol engine] that rebuild these coil packs* but even they are not cheap if you factor in carriage costs. V12icpack, Mercedes S600 ignition coil pack repair, ECU, misfires V12 engines - Home
This has been discussed before on the forum but with little feedback from anyone who has used such companies-- if you do a search on here? It may turn out this is one where you simply have to "bite the bullet" first thing to check would be the fault codes [ done?] and the state of the plugs on cylinders 9 and 10
* ps each cylinder has 2 plugs

hi, can I ask a question I have a ml320 it also has a misfiring on three-cylinder but that not the question? The question is this I've changed the atm fluids and filters also the o ring and conductor plate also the transmission control module but when you put in drive it's still stuck in gear could it be down to the misfiring that it's not creating enough rev to change gear or have I got it wrong many thanks

Quick update:

Dealer confirmed coil pack needed. I've given them the go ahead to replace it.
Easiest way all round I think.

Thanks for the support guys.

What’s the damage?

I won't be seeing much change from 2k. :wallbash:

Ouch!! I suppose there’s no other solution though :(

Do keep us posted.

Yes cylinders 9 and 10 are on the left side so only had left coil pack changed.

Car is back with me now.
Whilst it was at the dealer they loaned me a new S350. Although only poverty spec (absolutely no toys at all) it was a really nice car to drive.
So I'm giving serious thought to changing to something newer.
Or get something brand new on pcp.
