I have an S63 AMG Coupe, but this question is for all V8 owners. I had the AMG dashboard on today, which shows both water & oil temperatures. Oil temp sat rock steady at 90 deg, no deviation at all, where as the water fluctuated between 85 & 110 deg. No logical changes ie 50 mph would climb to 110 & at 70ish would be down to around 90, then next time at 50mph it would be around 90 or somewhere in between. Did not hear any fans cutting in/out. Wondered if 110 was a bit high Noticed the red zone starts at 130 deg. Perhaps I'm overthinking it. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, maybe I should switch off the screen. Back in the day you had gauges for everything, oil temp, oil pressure, water temp, ammeter, voltmeter, then it changed to warning lights, but by the time you noticed it was too late.
Answers appreciated

Hi , I would certainly get the engine temperature checked out.

Your cars engine at 70 mph is just turning over and and water temperature should be constant.

Every Mercedes I’ve had has fluctuated on temperature, climbs and drops, nothing to worry about I’d have thought.

Its only just warmed up at 80°

Hi , how long have you owned the car?

Not long enough if he thinks oil stays at 90°😆 (M156)

My E63 oil temp often hits 109 - but a lot of stop start driving where I am, so I thing engine tends to run hot........don't think its an issue though (I hope!?)

OP, for oil temp read water temp, for water temp read oil temp, and that's normal behaviour for an MB engine. Water temp fluctuating is definitely not.

Is this what you are looking at?

Left is engine oil temp, right is transmission oil temp
