Hi im a new member with a new car (not new really 1999 c43) but learning fast with all the help from you guys, thanks, my steering is a bit vague and tends to dart from side to side on un even road surfaces when driving straight, had service couple of weeks back and replaced ball joints , bushes etc and steering tie bar since then and had tracking done at same time. car has nearly new Bridgestone tyres all round, but does not handle as well as say our family run around or my Transit, any advice ? thanks Leigh

To cure this on my 500E I had...

A proper 4 wheel alignment, most places couldn't do a Mercedes.

A new steering damper, easy to do and cost about £30.

Dave!

Are the wheels originals or at least the same width and offset. If not that can cause tramlining due to altering the overal geometry.

As UAberwagon says get the car 4 wheel aligned as this totally transformed the handling on both my C230K and my C43 AMG.

Before getting it aligned check the lower arms for wear on the castor bushes.

Get your car to Wheels in Motion They are based in Chesham but well worth the drive.....you are not that far away....other forum members will tell you that they are the business when it comes to sorting out alignment problems. Had my car sorted there....made a big difference (I had tyre wear problems on front).

Give them a ring and get your car booked in....great service as well and you will get a cup of decent coffee there!!

Yes Wheels in Motion a very professional outfit, had the W221 done there after o/s front went down a pothole and had uneven tyre wear. Highly recommended.

Hi and welcome (nice car btw).

Yeah get the alignemnt checked - you've covered off nearly everything else.

Unless it's the steering damper? If that goes pop the steering can flop about. I've changed the steering damper at least once on each of mine at 50k+ miles
