Happy hump day all!

My 63 reg SL350 came back from a valet today, and I was a little upset to see some damage to the steering wheel.

As per the pictures, some of the “Mercedes Benz” writing at the bottom has disappeared, and some of the foil type material is now lifting.

Bar changing this whole piece of trim, does anybody have any good ideas for a good fix?

Cheers!

Is there a reason why you don't want to raise this with tbe detailer?

im not doubting your claim the valet damaged the wheel, but can you prove it?
have you got a picture taken at drop off showing the undamaged wheel? and how long after taking receipt of the car back did you notice it?
the reason I ask is the valet defence will be "it was like that when it came in sir" and you have no evidence - it is your word against theirs.

have you any idea what could they have done / used to cause such damage in a short time?
surely that area would only had a wipe over with a cloth? its not exactly a high soil area

Is that an genuine piece of MB trim?

Thanks all,

Yes this was a genuine trim piece.

Spoken to the valeters who are claiming it was like that when it came in. A Merc main dealer also washed it the day before...I know for a fact that it was fine on the weekend just gone!

Do people think glueing it down would work as a temp fix? Another idea is some sort of nice badge / stick on?

Otherwise I shall get a cost from the dealer tomorrow. Cant seem to find the version with the MB writing anywhere online...

I have seen on eBay chrome-style clip-on trim for the steering wheel, not sure if it's available for your particular model though.

Next time, get a valeter who doesn't use sandpaper, bloody disgrace, my heart goes out to you !

Cheap plastic tat, not making them like they used to.

I haven’t seen one like it before -Was that an OEM piece?

It looks aftermarket to me too.

If it was washed by the dealer too then it would be difficult to pin this on the people who washed it.

Doesn't really matter who made it, some kind of cream abrasive has been wrongly used.

It does in terms of replacement. If aftermarket then it's more likely to be available inexpensively than if it's a Mercedes part.

Something like this (<£12.00) on eBay ought to do the trick
