I am trying to sell my C class and I'm having no luck. I tried ebay and the bids reached only £970. What price should I be looking at for the the following?:
Its a sport C280 (V6)

115k and the engine runs like new!
*1997 (R reg)
*Automatic-Switchable Summer/Winter modes
*5 door
*FSH
*Recent service inc. new brakes, Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres
*AMG alloys
*Black leather seats, drivers side electric
*Climate control
*Electric Sunroof/windows/heated mirrors
*Speed limiter/cruise control
*Traction Control
*PAS
*ABS
*Front and side airbags
*Mercedes Alarm/Immobiliser

all the usual MB goodies, overall good condition.

I was looking for about £2800.
Am i to far out on price?

I would appreciate any help.
Many thanks

I recently sold my 1998 CLK 320 with 97k miles for £3k.
So maybe yours is worth £2.5k?

Have you tried Autotrader......I still think most buyers look there first.

Ebay gets a lot of the wrong type of buyers.

Autotrader might be better... but have you tried Mercedes Enthusiast magazine?

Have you advertised it on here? Posted any pics? Maybe worth a go.

I will try there, the problem is, is the car is so reliable I am doubting weather selling is a good idea. Id rather keep a car I know is reliable, but i also want a change

While eBay will bring alot of timewasters who wants to pay next to nothing, I actually sold my E55 there. Guy rang up, came the next and bought the car, cash. He also drive for 6 hours to meet me.... :thumb:

I also tried Autotrader & Pistonheads - gave nothing, except calls in the middle of the night!

I think you might be a bit optomistic with your valuation as your car is a saloon (is it a saloon, as you've said it has 5 doors?) as opposed to a coupe. They (coupes) hold their value better. To give you an idea. My stepfather tried to px his 1998 'R' reg silver C180 auto elegance spec, fully history, 72k miles, and in good condition and was offered £500! This was against a £8500 car. Needless to say he declined. Try the valuation site

and see what they say.

Did they make a C class hatchback?

A couple of months ago I was offered £2,500 P/Ex on mine (02, 270 CDi, A/garde, 175k mls) against a new Honda CR-V, what a shock!

Price may be a tad optimistic at the moment, the CLK's holdprices better, the C Class not quite so, I paid less than 2k for my 1999 just 2-3 months ago.

I was offered 4k for my 53 Reg w203 C180 K (full main dealer service history) comand,phone,aux port,tv input,leather factory bi xenons 50,000 miles.Immaculate alloys, (4 brand new Conti's) and paintwork
The guy said he was doing me a favour as it booked out at 3.5k.
This was at mercedesbenz Warrington (January 2009) against a new C Class
I felt insulted.
I know they will not be able to sell on their forecourt, and I have no dillusions about it's value.

Good Luck
Joe

Did he offer any discount of his asking price??? If not then he was only offering you a few pounds.......and they wonder why they are not liked...

Mercedes supposedly strong residuals are a bit of a joke if you ask me. By the time the options list has been ticked a few times for those 'must-haves' the car is rather expensive, but yet adds very little to the resale value.

Strong Residuals - it is now an illusion based upon the past

Mercedes have never had strong residuals since the W124.

They are now just like any other volume car maker - initial cost is high - then they fall like a stone, (except at some MBZ dealers who can still sucker the public into paying top price - for new or used)

Not really. The C class's were been offered to me at brochure price.I had done my home work on prices and various extra's ,as you do.
The guy was pretty clueless (also his manager) on the offers mercedesbenz uk were advertising on their website.
Their constant excuse was that they are always the last to know about sales promotions etc.
I was also keen on the the E Class they were offering excellent deductions around 8k at the time. I showed them the offers on the web site:wallbash:
I think at the end of the day....they had a showroom full of potential non haggling buyers, they had wasted enough time with me.

Asking price, not selling price, surely?

RH

Nearly all of them say SOLD next to them, im sure are bartered down...
