But if the seller pays for the checks then the buyer will not benefit from the protection that the majority of these checking services provide in the event of something coming to light later that may have been missed.
Exactly.

So anyone requesting the seller to have such checks carried out is either a scammer or an idiot (most probably both).
 
Message this morning that he's been some distance to see cars twice recently that were not as described, having done HPI checks, and he's about an hour away from me, and not prepared to waste time and money again.
That would raise a red flag for me. Only an hour away an not prepared to come and take a look!
I'd advise him to make his own checks if he is interested.
 
Never came back to me; probably a scammer, or else just a timewaster - don't know, don't care...

Got another one now; this time it's a Drive Deck report suggested, though no link given. The website looks pretty professional, but I'm not biting; a quick check of the mobile number on the internet reveals all...
 
Maybe......but not by the obvious ones that people seems to be had by everyday.
