Hi,
Does anyone know what the vehicle data card no.2 that is glued to the back of the service book is for, and if it is of any use. Mine has been pulled out and is missing. Can MB customer service can get me one ?
Regards Tony

It's basically the "as built" specification of your vehicle.

It has the order number against which the car was built, the engine and gearbox serial numbers, paint code, interior code, a (usually long) list of option codes, and the manufacturer of components such as tyres and headlight bulbs.

Mercedes-Benz can certainly get you all this information. You can also get it yourself by putting your VIN into this site.

As built is not strictly true it should always be updated when retrofits are carried out, not a problem if you want to obtain an exact duplicate of the sheet from MB because the FDOK should have been updated also.

Is it possible to have this updated with retrofits that weren't completed by Mercedes themselves? My car now has the AMG bodykit and I recall from a WIS article that one of the steps is to update the vehicle information and in Germany also provide a certificate of installation / change.

Your installer need access to the MB system to do this.

Have a word with your dealer mate, we have a form in the system thats used for this exact purpose i.e Retrofits.

A question just to refresh my memory, I understand we are talking about times when data cards came with the car as separate booklets (was that used when W220 was on sale?). I thought at that time the data card consisted of two parts, the sensitive one that was not supposed to be kept in the car (this one allowed ordering new keys etc. ???) and the one that had no sensitive info and could be attached to the service sheet (and left to the car).

Do I remember this right at all?

I don't think W211 ever had a paper copy of the data card, cannot remember about W210 or older cars (that I know of).

If the two parts existed, wasn't the data card part 2 something different from the info we can now get from EPC or the Russian VIN decoder?

This is just the basic stuff nothing you would want to keep away from the car TBH.

It's still issued at the moment but I'm not sure if its on all models.
