You can write to DVLA in Swansea , enclosing evidence of your current ownership and they may supply what info is on their computer - they certaiinly do this for UK registered owners , I don't know that it will make any difference you are in Ireland . There is a fee (I think) of £5 for this service. Here is the website -

http://www.dvla.gov.uk/welcome.htm

You can also use the RAC vehicle data check service which is free

http://www.rac.co.uk/web/carbuying/vehicle_data_search/

If you find out the address of the original owner , the car may have been supplied new by the local dealer - if you are lucky they may be helpful with information .

Of course , once you have the names and addresses of the previous owners (from DVLA) , you can try contacting them and see what you can find out .

The Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart will also supply you with the production info on your car , you must send proof of ownership for this also (a photocopy of your registration document should do) - when I did it some years ago for my Ponton this was free - I don't know if there is a fee now.

Finally , the Russian M-B Club have a VIN decoder on their website which gives a lot of information if you input your car's VIN

Follow this link -

Hope this is of help.

Thanks guys. GSBellow , there is a new site called cartell.ie where you can check irish cars.( My English reg does not show on the rac site so must check the log book to see if it correct)

What info are you after exactly anyway?

MDL in Dublin would be able to give you info based on your chassis number, although they can be fussy and it helps if you know someone there.

I was lucky it seems, all of the info available from any of the links so far came in my car with the instruction manuals :D

A note, the RAC one I've always found inaccurate, in that it always seems to give an incorrect manufacturing date.

The DVLA will give you a certificate of export for free if you write to them, that lists all the information they have including the name and address of the last registered owner, there is a form to fill out on their website that you post in to them.

Check the DVLA one that I posted.

The DVLA can give you a list of all previous owners of any number plate they hold.
