Ive got a '98 CLK 200 and when i go over even the slightest bump i get a horrible sharp knocking noise from the passenger side front wheel.

I've had a quick look with the wheel off and cant see anything untoward. Are there any checks i can do to try to diagnois which part is noisy? I.e Ball joints , shocker etc

Any help will be very appreciated as im getting scared of driving it. Sounds like the wheels hanging off! :(

i would put the wheel back on! but leave it jacked up and wiggle the wheel side to side!
then top and bottem!
that should elimenate ball joint! track rod! and wheel bearing!

right, jacked one wheel off the floor yesterday and tested it shaking it as hard as i could top to bottom and side to side. theres no noise at all in either direction, no knocking, clicking or anything.
anti-roll bar bushes look quite new, not perished or anything.

does this mean the shocker is noisy??

Broken spring? Not always obvious as they break at the ends. Other possibility is a dodgy engine mount.
