Very low mileage 124 Coupe

i think it is worth every penny! Nice colour, great spec... on my wish list, just the wrong colour for me, but it is a nice colour none the less!

well you would

sure its not one of yours

haha

hmm. im quite sure!

unfortunately, alot of the forum members who are more inclined to the modern cars loose the value of the older w124/123 models, which is what mercedes was all about. The newer cars quality, style, design are pathetic, will age faster and are so generic, that the value to each car is diminished. These cars built in the early 90's, 80's and 70's are going to sky rocket as long as low mileage and full service..

Dont believe me now, but we can always discuss this thread in 5 - 10 years time to see the trend in prices!! :)

15,000 miles ..

expensive?

looks great

Taken from the sales blahblah:

" We have thought long and hard about the value for money this car offers, and have concluded that rather than comparing it with higher mileage examples of the same model it should be viewed alongside its current equivalents, i.e. a nearly new Mercedes CLK with about the same mileage." In other words "We know how to charge."

Well specced, and an interesting take by the seller on that, too. Most outgoing models become better specced, for standard money or less, to clear the way for the new/facelifted version!

Start using it as a daily driver, and watch the value plummet!

You have a point that is well proven historically......but it depends at what price you buy into the cycle

When prices beat, say inflation, by a significant amount, or are overpriced initially there will always be a correction, as with most assets.

We are now in a time of falling asset values which could lead to deflation and only the brave would jump in and buy such a vehicle at that price, expecting it to maintain its value, unless they are not concerned about the value.

The general feeling is that the near future will be bleak and that assets prices will continue to fall.

As far as the price of the Coupe is concerned, at that price it is overvalued as an asset.............at this time.....but may not be sometime in the future....but when

The more available Classic cars have never returned to the prices that were seen in the stock market boom of the 80s and to maintain any value it would have to be "stored" rather than used

In these times it is far easier to buy than to sell

will it actually ever sell i wonder

there is the case of the silver convertible that was about £17k last year that is now down to £13k

for me no one will pay that ammount for even a late p redg fully loaded let alone a k redg

I think its a lovely car, the colour will definately stand out and the spec is very high. Price, well its hard to put a value but depends on what someone is willing to pay? Its the age old question " how long is a piece of string?".

I think the seller has listed his phone number instead of the price

i presume u r talking about the one from a garage near bath...

their car was always over priced, as it has a fairly highish mileage, nice spec and colour as it was silver with grey interior, with the larger amg alloys, but even with my logic on pricing, i would not pay for it, but would on the £16k coupe.

most of the cars for sale of w124 cabs are crap standard cars of no specific value as they are either modified, high mileage, not tidy or 101 owners...

low owners, low mileage and good service record makes all the difference i feel :)

I saw that at the Classic Car and Bike Show at the NEC last year where it was priced at £15K. It is a lovely car and in pristine condition but the price is way too much IMO.

Mechanically A W124 does not take well to low meage imo.

Lubrication is the key to cars being in good mechanical condition, so rubber seals, engines, transmissions, rubbers etc all want to be used, lived in etc.

A shiny paintwork and no rust does not a good car make.

Dave!

I paid more than that for mine and it had done more miles (just) ......... 13 years ago!

It's a great starting point though! Most people looking for something collectable would prefer original, straight paintwork/patina, as these are the most obvious areas to expose a "got at" car.

Rare colours like rosewood are rare because they weren't popular in their day, not because they were limited editions. The seller has put a great positive spin on all aspects of the car though, and no doubt there will be room for a bit of negotiation.

so the price has increased .. the value has seemingly appreciated

I have to beg to differ with you on this one, as the W124 Cabriolet is not a model generally known to have fallen into the 'wrong hands' & thus prone to having been molested/modified, have mega high mileages & tatty with multiple owners.

Obviously there are exceptions to the rules, but genarally most have been used as second cars, are cossetted, are ususally unmolested & as a result numbers have survived pretty well. Remember there were probably no more than 1300 made in RHD in the first place.

You are definantly more likely to see one in Chelsea & Kensington rather than a council estate in Bootle.

You are on about W124 cabriolets & not XR3i Cabriolets??

I think you may be trying to typecast all the others so yours looks more outstanding & better value for money at 30K.;)

Classic car at a classic price:dk:
Seems a bit overpriced.Wrong colour as well:doh:
I like the azurite blue much, much more.

Absolutely :D

Mine's lived in Romford (the nice part I'm sure ;)) Kensington and Kew - so I'd go along with that!
