Very tempted with this for a mess about

Just had fresh MOT, but did have a few problems just before.

Repair immediately (major defects):
  • Engine MIL inoperative or indicates a malfunction (8.2.1.2 (h))
  • Nearside Front Coil spring fractured or broken (5.3.1 (b) (i))
  • Exhaust carbon monoxide content after 2nd fast idle exceeds default limits (8.2.1.2 (b))
  • Exhaust hydrocarbon content after 2nd fast idle exceeds default limits (8.2.1.2 (b))
  • Exhaust Lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits (8.2.1.2 (c))
Repair as soon as possible (minor defects):
  • Offside Front Windscreen wiper blade defective (3.4 (b) (i))
Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
  • Slight play in track rod ends both front
  • Fuel Pipe/s corroded ()
  • underside showing sighs of corrosion

Woowwww thank you for that info ,,
Any thoughts on this been an engine issue in the future ? 🧐

Points 1,3,4,5 could easily have all been a common cause - lambda probe or lambda probe heater, apparently sorted.

point 2, well, springs seems pretty much consumables these days.

The corrosion would be more worrying for me tbh, but for a 2001 car, likely the tip of the rustberg.

2001+R170=not galvanised. Beware tinworm!

I don't think any r170s were galvanised well enough to stop rust entirely. Ours is a 2004 and a few bubbles are coming through and I reckon that it's had paint in the past.

R170's were not galvanised - which is part of the reason I bought an R171!!

That looks like a very nice wee car for 3k.
But.... if I were you I be looking for a galvanised one.
