Hi has anyone changed glow plugs on a Viano 2.2, it's a 2008 model.

Are they notorious for shearing off and are they easy or not to access?. Trying to decide whether to do it myself or not.

Yes they can be an issue to remove, they can even ruture at the tip and be difficult to remove due to the flared tip.

On saying that I've changed out a few times and haven't had a problem.
Getting up to temp might help, using penetrating fluid might also.
You might even spend a week spraying and running to temp.
Personally I've done from cold and rocked clockwise, anti clockwise.
If a plug feels like it's taking too much torque leave it and return after treatment.

Not replacing one isn't the end of the world.

Thanks for the response, Im replacing because 2 and 3 are faulty and I'm getting a lot of blue grey smoke after idling a while in traffic. Any special tools required? I assume 4 is the worst

Aye, 4 just needs you to lean in a bit more.
Tool wise, a long reach socket and extension/s. The special bit will be a torque wrench that can be accurate at 11N/m. It doesn't take much above that to twist them and then they're u/s.
I used a little hi temp grease on the thread.
Make sure you keep the socket in line as they are fragile little sods that aren't forgiving of abuse.
