Hi Everyone,
I am looking to buy a viano with 4 rows of seats as i have seen mentioned on the forums here. However only the two side rails go all the way to the back. the two centre rails stop about two feet further forward. Is there a bench which just clips into the side rails. If there is where can i get it from?

You sure? Thought the Viano only came with 3 rows, rows 2 and 3 being either 2/2 individual seats or 3/3 bench. Doesn't any more than 8 seats come under PSV regs? The outer rails go to the back to allow the attachment of luggage/load straps.

Exactly as I said 3 rows. 2 seats front, 2 or 3 middle and 2 or 3 back no more. No doubt you could get the seats from a Traveliner, which are bolted to the floor, and fit them but with considerable problems both fitting and with insurance and also PSV.

What exactly is the problem with PSV? Sorry I am a newbie.
When I bought my Estima it was a fresh import from Japan and the importer added a seatbelt in the rear bench and informed dvla that it had nine seats. insurance was also told and there was no problem.
Is that illegal? Why couldn't the 9 seater traveliner for instance have an extra bench making it 12?

8 passenger seats (so 9 in total) makes a vehicle a minibus, which has some implications for the driver ... even if it's being driven as a private vehicle:

Driving a minibus

That's why 2/3/2 and 2/3/3 are such common seating arrangements in people carriers.

Tbh with you, i dont think for 1 minute there would be much room between the seats even of you managed to get 12 seats in let alone for passengers!!

It is mainly for kids, I think they would be fine with the space (more than they have now)

So does that mean I was driving illegally in France last year? Lucky I didnt get stopped

Possibly ... it is more complicated when you go over 8 seats (even in the UK).

With 4 rows of seating it would be hard to get everyone out quickly in an emergency? Proper minibuses normally have 'barn door' rear doors (rather than a tailgate), which people can enter/exit through.
