Bad vibration on a 66 plate C200 saloon Ive only had for 2 weeks. More noticeable on the motorway however also occurs at around 60MPH and also when heavily braking.
Taking it back to the dealership I purchased from next week however any guess what could be causing it?

Wheel balancing (or buckled wheel, or a defective tyre)?

Warped brake discs (will only cause vibration when braking, not while driving)?

EDIT: As Lennox said.

Cool thanks all, covered under the standard 3 month warranty do u think, first time I’ve been on the motorway in it last weekend and don’t think I could have caused it?

I am assuming it isn't an MB 'Approved Used' then - they usually come with 12 months warranty.

Yes, take it back to the dealer that you bought it from, warranty or not, this should be covered anyway by the Consumer Rights Act.

I had similar problems after 18 months with my C Class 205. Took it to ATS suspecting a missing wheel weight. They checked the car out suspension ok, rims in good shape, wheel weights all present but said the front tyre had started to go egg shaped. They said that they had seen this on 19” Continental tyres. I had problems with Pirelli’s going out of shape on my MK1 Escort in the 70’s but a premium tyre is this day and age? Declined their offer to change the tyres as I was sceptical about their diagnosis and put up with the problem fat a few more weeks. Finally decided to bite the bullet and had all 4 tyres changed for new MOE Continentals. After the tyre change the car drove like new again.

Could be any number of things - wheel balance , warped brake disc , propshaft bearing/coupling .

We can only guess . You are doing the right thing by taking it back to the dealer , but I might want it done sooner than next week : I’d be inclined to take it back now and ask for a courtesy car if that is the soonest they can look at it .

It could be something which will get worse , or may even be dangerous.

Thanks just don’t wanna be messed around and then say nothing is wrong as I’m not that technical when it comes to cars.
Booked in for 9.00 tomorrow hopefully they find out what is wrong! 👍

Since you say you just got it a couple of weeks ago , had it been parked up on a forecourt since March ?

Tyres could have developed flat spots with standing still for so long ....

Thanks for your replies all so car garage stated they could not find anything wrong however did re balance the front wheels, still seems to be a bit of an issue though.
Thinking of taking to Mercedes Dealership and paying for diagnostics to see if that finds anything still not 100% convinced there isn’t an underlying fault somewhere.

Sounds like the garage fobbed you off buddy , they should be sorting it as you just bought it , rather than you paying someone else from your pocket

Ask to take the Service Manager out in the car with you so he can see and feel the issue..

I am just guessing here , but I think quite a likely scenario is that the car has sat on a forecourt over the lockdown and one or more of the tyres has become eccentric ( developed flat spots due to being parked too long ) . That wouldn’t necessarily show up on the balancing machine as the weight distribution would be the same , but it would cause unevenness in rolling .

You would need to spin each wheel up to speed and watch for unevenness both radially and laterally .
