NO you can't mollycoddle them.but you can set them on the right path. Please also be aware that if your childs headteacher discovers that he is allowed to play 18+ games you may get a visit from childrens social services,as it is deemed bad parenting. Please rethink,Minecraft is more like it,a constructive game without extreme violence and bad language.

I played 18+ video games when I was a child. Some a lot worse than GTA and I turned out fine, as I'm sure he will be even more successful in life

My parenting is fine thank you and his path is prosperous

In fact I remember back at school buying the PlayStation magazine which had the GTA demo on it before it was released, wasn't an age restriction on the magazine

Shame yet another thread turned sour by judgemental people jumping to conclusions.

Merry Christmas Ash. Hope you're enjoying time with your son whatever you choose to do.

Do your children smoke and drink too...bet they don't,it would be bad for their health!

age restrictions are to protect. violent interactive games are not good

Wrong.

That's MY job, not any restrictions set by anyone.

Now THAT is genuinely funny! :bannana:

I'm not sure that I have ever used the :bannana: thing before but that comment tickled me pink.

There's no exact science to parenting. It's down to individuals. We let our 11 year old daughter watch 18 films & things on TV that she's too young to watch but that's our call. She knows the difference between right and wrong, end of!

I did stuff as a kid (like using my fathers power tools in the garage, alone making things with timber) I'd never let our daughter do such things in my workshop, but that doesn't mean my Dad was wrong to let me do so, he thought I was capable, I on the other hand don't think my daughter is. Simple.

It's not necessarily the premiss of right and wrong. It's introducing them to things before their time. For example, I am told ( I don't have this game) that Grand Theft auto is about stealing cars - now yes your child may know the difference between theft - if that is wrong or right, but part of the game he picks up a prostitute and this happens... (this is explicit...keep watching it) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZHB0KZQSiQ

Now I don't mind my older children (under 18) shooting aliens, but I don't want them seeing or engaging in that whether I say they are mature or not!

That and the rest, there a strip joints on there to get dances, you can mug and shoot people. Can play tennis, golf, ride your bike down the beach on there or go abseiling

The bad stuff, is in the missions. Which he doesn't really do, he literally drives round and flies the planes. Only plays it with me or a member of family present, not that I'd stop him playing most of the missions anyway

Ash - I'm not martyring any cause, indeed as Ive said my boys play older games than their age as I, like you, think they're ok for things like shooting the odd alien with green blood - they see far worse in Tom & Jerry involving anvils and power drills... It's just those extra bits that I cant get away with - hence why those games are most definitely adult. Does the case of those boxes say "explicit porn" on them I wonder?

I know mate, I wouldn't let him do anything extreme if I thought it was bad. I fully explain everything to him and he rarely plays it alone

Just checked the box it only states bad language and violence, technically it has soft pornographic material in it although you can't see anything different to on page 3

I don't judge and I'm not sure how to would deal with a kid wanting an age inappropriate game.

All I know is a parent at my little girls school let his nine year plays such games. Kid bragged to his mates, teacher over heard. Next came a knock on the door from SS.

He told me of the nightmare and hassle it caused. Apparently they don't just drop it at a quick quiet words these days.

Nanny state and all that I know but that's the times we live in.

When I was a kid we had Mortal Kombat on the Super Nintendo and Sega Megadrive, both the UK parliament and US Congress were up in arms at the level of violence saying that it would corrupt children for life. It didnt and looking back at the pixelated violence it now looks comical

Back to the OP, game designers these days have no space restrictions and as a result are lazy about the amount of storage space required.

I think it also allows them to release games as soon as possible (recoup money) with very little beta testing and they simply plug the gaps as they go.

Thats one of the reasons why I love all Nintendo products, they take ages to be released however they rarely (if ever) have bugs and issues that need fixing.

That's exactly it, the only recent game without bugs has been Titanfall 2, although the released a patch recently which fixed pretty minor issues to be fair

Titles like Call of duty are terrible for issues. They box up the product and sell it, fixing what's broke or wrong along the way it's quite annoying. Especially when there has been several previous titles to learn from :dk:

My Mum bought me Never Mind The ******** one Christmas.

Must have been a conflict for a Chapel Minister's daughter.
