I have DVD command (2.0 I think) in my CLS and I want to add a reversing camera system to it.

Does anyone know how to do this?

From what I can find, I need a multimedia interface like the Dietz IMU.. but cant find a uk supplier.

Does any one know of a good video in interface and where to get it?

Also.. does any one know how to remove the command unit in a CLS?

For this model of car there is some whacky solution.

It is a taiwanese kit which jumpers between the COMAND LCD and the COMAND electronics and introduces a reversing camera controller.

It is proven to be effective and work just fine. It is however less expensive than the option you are considering to install. Especially that I am 90% certain that your CLS COMAND does not have a video input.

I have seen that kit and as you say.. it does look a little whacky!

Has anyone used the kit?

When you hijack the screen with is kit, do the other functions like sat nav and radio still work with the screen?

How do you switch to video input?

I think I prefer to use the deitz interface.. Seems to be an easier solution.. just need to find a supplier.

As Miro says, he is 90% sure that you're comand does not have a video input, so you will have to change it for one with a video input before you can add a Dietz or any other video input device.

MB phased out having the video input on COMAND for most of cars without TV or reversing camera factory fitted a while ago (cost saving)

So, you should take out your COMAND and see if it has a green fakra (coax) connector unused on the back - if not, you will need to change it to one that has COMAND - talk to alfie, he may have one he can part-exchange against - the video input ones are rare and more expensive that the ones without.

I too am pretty sure your car will not have the video connector !

Cheers

From what I read.. the deitz interface doesnt need video in. It provides video in via the MOST bus

Is this not correct?

No that is not correct for your car. Only applies to

2003-2006 CL and S class with MOST optical. That was with a Siemens head unit.

All CLS have a Becker head unit.

well thats annoying!

Does anyone know how I can remove the unit and check?

I am thinking about removing the unit all together as its a pile of C*** anyway!

Put it on a diagnostic. The part number can be read directly from that. No need to pull anything apart.

Richard,
Does the same apply to a w203 2005 facelift model???

If you want ML style function (switching over on reverse) yes it can be done but you will have to pay for the circuit board to be specially upgraded. That would cost a bit.

If you just want TV signal with reversing camera on it ... yes. Any media interface signal can do that but there is no auto-switching.

Kubi,

That means you can fit TV and/or reverse camera to your ML. As you are in UK, your car will have the antenna in the rear side screens for TV.

If you fit both the reverse camera connects to one of the TV tuner video inputs

TV Tuner, really, that sounds fun!!!!

Is it a big job??

Richard can you have both?

I have a 2006/7 facelift S211 with TV in the front (comand) and rear TV from the factory.

Is there a way to have reversing camera added to this set-up? If so what is the likely cost please?
