Hi All, I keep getting different answers online when searching the VIN number on my 2017 CLA (trying to see if it is 4matic or not) - is there an alternative way I can check this ?

What does the V5 say or look on vin.mb

Yeah it doesn’t mention 4 matic on either of those when I checked but when i queried it with the dealer they sent me a screen shot of something they use and it says 4matic on theirs

Post here the first part of the VIN (up to the letter).

Plug in an OBD scanner and read it from there.

The OP has the VIN, he's looking for a reliable online VIN decoder.

The pic above is the rear axle. Don’t suppose there any mechanics who can verify if this is what the 4Matics would look like are they?

I’ve had a look on VIN.MB and it does not say anything about it been 4Matic….my understanding is it would say in brackets in the type of car it is

no sign of any drive shaft at this angle? just a trailing arm

That’s what I thought, it’s clearly visible on the front but I wasnt sure what it should look like on the back

Based on this VIN, your car's model designation is 117.303, which is FWD, not AWD (The 4MATIC variant of your car is designated 117.305).
Oh Great, I thought as much. Thanks for confirming….looks like it will be going back to the dealer…

BTW, unless the car has been debadged (either from the factory by a previous owner), if it was an AWD car then it should have had the 4MATIC decal on the back.
