Vito 110cdi W638
Hi all,

Just after a bit of advice please, I've got myself a lovely old Vito w638, barely run in with 205k on the clock.
The EDC light is permanently on, along with the coil light. It runs absolutely fine, starts first time, blows a little smoke but nothing major and pulls like a train... ish.

Is there a common cause? If anyone can suggest a potential quick fix before I send it for diag, I'd be forever grateful.
Cheers

I believe that the coil light (heater plug light ? ) remaining lit is indicative of one or more heater plugs having failed.
A few years ago I also used to have a 110cdi, and agree they pull like a train. Also they are such good engines that in our climate they apparently cope fine even without the heater plugs working.
However they do not cope with our climate with regards to corrosion. I chose to get rid of mine when I discovered that (despite it appearing exceptionally clean & smart) the main structure was rotting from the inside out.!
Hth.

That makes sense, I'll give it a service with a new set of plugs and see if i can get rid of the light too then.
As for corrosion, mines a right scab. It needs a little bit of welding for the MOT but nothing too bad, the bodywork is pretty nasty though. It's gonna be used as a mobile workshop for my little track car so I'll just cover the rust with race stickers :)

LOL, my little vito (got a 2007 639 now) is my trackday transport module too.
I can transport my trackbike in it too, bit easier than tracking with a cage would be.
What's your pride & joy please.?

(Just to spam your thread, here's me on mine at Cadwell )

It's not much in comparison to that ^ ha but I'm in the final stages of building a race ready Ford Puma, which I'll be entering into the Puma Cup.
It's basically a cheap but really professionally ran version of Motorsport. Cars cost about 3.5k to build and go like the clappers when they're done. I'll get a photo up when I can!

That sounds like great fun mate. Fwiw I've always quite liked the little Pumas, they seemed to have potential sporting potential that I wasn't aware had ever been utilised.

...... I'll get a photo up when I can!
If you would please, I'd be really interested to see it.

Regarding your 110cdi. Without wanting to seem negative, please don't spend too much time/effort/money on it. Mine seemed pretty much mint, until I happened to inspect the chassis rails whilst I had the engine out. I had no way of knowing until then just how badly they rot away internally, and I loved the way it went etc.. If it wasn't for the endemic Tinworm I would still have mine & not one of the newer galvanised ones.

Yeah, Its in a sorry state at the moment, on axle stands with no wheels due to fitting the new coilover kit. I'll put her back together and take a pic.

But yeah, after having a closer look underneath it does look a bit crumbly. I'll probably look for a replacement before its next MOT i reckon!

Hello

I feel you should get your car checked up .There is a great site called Car Service | MOT & Car Repairs | Local Car Garages & Repair Deals . It will introduce you to a network of acclaimed garages. Its just a question of typing in your registration number.

Hope this helps
