Vito 110cdi tapping sound

swirl flaps ??

If fitted.

@StMarks

I would put up with the noise as its a van.

But if you're a perfectionist then get some quotes and make your decision :)

Most vans I get in need to be on the road earning money so they just get driven with the noise till something else goes wrong.
Customer deems repairs too costly and gets a new one after 2-3 years.

Thanks for your wisdom.

I guess that (although it goes against my nature) I may well re-fit & put up.
I do not expect to be using it very much.

I would like to reduce the possibility of ingesting a swirl flap (if that was the cause), so I had better look into that.

As an alternative, do you know if a 108cdi engine would be a suitable donor for the block & piston for my 110cdi.??
Or are there major component differences that anyone knows about please.?

I would buy a complete 110 engine as you know all the ancillaries will fit from your old engine corerctly, and most s/h places will give a guarantee on the full engine but not on a block.

Not sure your engine has swirl flaps,but the Vito (W639) 120 CDI does, see if there's an actuator on the inlet manifold with a bar across the under side that controls the swirl flaps.

My bad mentioning it as I was in conversation on PM to someone else regarding swirl flaps in a vito.
