vito 638 start error

Hi can anyone help, I have intermitate error sometimes it don't happen for weeks and other times it can happen 3 or 4 times in one day start error? What can I check if anything?

The van will not start because message on dash says start error this does not happen all the time but the only way I can clear it is by removing battery terminal and waiting a while, sometimes it takes a couple of minutes but other times it can take half hour to clear it .

What year, engine etc ? Any sound when you turn key ? Do the dash lights come and so on

I have 2001 vito 110 cdti 2.2 traveliner, lights come on dash but when start error showing it won't turn over and there is no sound

cdti ? How come my dash doesnt give any messages like that ? I guess start with the usual place. Multimeter at the start motor to see if it gets power etc then the solenoid.
