Greetings all, new to this forum and advice on an old favourite topic please. Not new to Mercs but am new to a 2004 Vito CDI 111 and was wondering if I could be ok to run it on a mix of diesel and new cooking oil. Did this on an old 300 6 pot no problem with about a two thirds diesel to one third oil but I gather more modern engines this can be a problem. Have done a bit of searching and some seem to rule against it while others suggest it should be fine. Quite keen to bring running costs down as we have a costco close by where I can by 20litres of the stuff very reasonably but if this results in expensive garage bill then will not be popular. If it is just a question of a fuel filter change then no sweat but not sure if this is a common rail or whatever they call it and causing major issues. As you can see no expert and any help appreciated.

I wouldn't use veg oil in it, if you're really keen then you can make your own biodiesel, but the weak point is the high pressure pump really, as it's lubricated by the fuel and there's pretty much no room for error.

CDI means common-rail. ;)

Vito CDI 111 Veg Oil

Thanks for coming back and the advice. Don't think I want to go down the bio diesel home made route. Lots of faff, equipment and storgae needed from what I can see plus I do not have any contacts. I think you can also only put a small percentage in and I was told bio diesel does a lot more damage to the fuel pump than pure unused veg oil. Just looking for a cost saving as I can get the oil about half the price of diesel but it is not cheaper if it then goes to the garage to a mechanic can suck air through his teeth tut and say 'this is going to cost you' or marital relations with 'I told you not to do that but would you listen!!!'

Thanks for the advice. I shall have a look at the other forum. I normally get around 35mpg and have got nearly 38 on a steady run so not too bad but did like the idea of saving a few quid but given the advice shall air on the side of caution.

Like your cars by the way, my kind of taste. I am starting to come round to the look of Alfa's more and more.
