Hello there,

I'm after a bit of advice about retro fitting cruise control to a new (57 plate) Vito 111CDI (Manual). The first dealer I asked (MB North Acton) said "don't know, looks expensive - 7-800 quid maybe?" - "why so expensive?" I ask - "well you need a new kickdown control module" - "even though mine is manual?" - "yes". Cue much laughter from me as I walk out. A more reasonable response came from Intercounty Milton Keynes - £380 + VAT fully fitted. Still sounds incredibly expensive to me. I found online a Vito accessories brochure that quoted part number "B6 656 0664" for Cruise Control. Calling up another dealer and asking for a price just for that part, I was quoted £111.21 + VAT. This is my first experience with Mercedes and they seem quite secretive about parts lists and parts suppliers - can anyone shed any light on what you get for that partlist? Do I need more parts? How straightforward is fitting it? I fitted cruise to my old Skoda Octavia and it was a doddle. In this modern age of electronic throttles and traction control etc how hard can it be?

Any advice would be most gratefully received!

Cheers - Jules

If you fit it yourself then be very very careful. Your steering wheel will need to come of and you will need to disassemble the steering wheel boss. If you move that boss too much or you disassemble the sensor plate from the boss, you will have big trouble. Like buy a new sensor/boss type trouble. You really should get this done by someone who knows what they are doing. There is one very key piece of equipment you will need for this ;) Plus you will almost certainly need some coding done on the car.

£380 plus VAT doesn't sound excessive IMO if that's the OEM one with speed limiter too. A friend of mine recently had CC retro-fitted, will find out how much it cost (hers is an auto though).

My Vito came from Intercounty btw.

I agree.

She said the M-B dealer in Hatfield did it for under £400 ... she will dig out the receipt.
