Hi chaps,
I am new to this forum and this is the first post.
I have bought a duoliner that is water damaged, it turns over ok but doesn't start ? it was in a flood and i think has had water in the bores.

i am collecting it on friday so will get stuck in asap but just wanted to know the best way of dealing with this problem.

i think :-

1) remove heater plugs
2) change oil
3) change deisel
4) spin over to remove any water in cylinders
5) re-fitt heater plugs and try

any other suggestions please guys ?

thanks in advance

Martin

I think it will take a LOT more than that to sort!!!

I think you may be better trying to find a new engine - But then theres still the electric side of things to sort!
Any thoughts it turning out to be a cheap buy could be out the window... not something i would want to get involved in.

Hello

There were a few incidents as this a while back with new flood damaged cars, a few I read the owners almost stripped the complete car to bits. Problem is they have sensors and control units all over the place all talking to one another.

I hope for your sake its an easy fix and please keep us posted. Do you know what 'flood' damage occured?

Maybe a Toyota would have been better (Top Gear......)

6) Buy new engine.
7) Buy every ecu on the car
8) Wish you'd brought a straight one...

Worth a try but as mentioned there are so many electronic control units in a modern vehicle (even a van) that flood damage is normally terminal.

PS to get water in the bores the engine would need to have been running with the air intake below water level?? In which case there could be mechanical damage to the engine (bent conrods?), as well as the electrical issues. Water would also have gone through the turbo ... probably wouldn't have done that much good.

Good luck anyway, you never know you might be lucky!

right chaps, thanks for the doom and gloom, i will let you know how far the water has gone up the van and where it has got inside, picking it up on Friday so should have had a good gig by tea time.

only hope its fixable at a resonable price.

Hi Chaps,
thanks for the advice, i went and bought it anyway, i have taken thye injectors out and got the water out cleaned out the turbo and intercooler and all inlet track, cleaned out all the old diesel and filled with new HEY PRESTO SHE RUNS.

engine sounds ok except turbo is a bit noisy but apart from that all ok.!!!!!!

the only dead thing is the alternator seems the field coil is burnt out.

got a few questions though,

will the SL500 wheels fit theVito ?

what should the current drain be from the battery when ignition is off ??
i have approx .89A ?

where is the best place to buy an alternator??

Martin

The drain should be no more than 0.06A with the car locked and everything shut and after a wait of 20-40 mins.
