I have a weird one for you guys

My vitos interior heater randomly went cold ??? Stuck my foot down and it went hot again and thought no more about it .later the water level light came on so chucked a little in her and all was fine . Until today it started smoking white smoke on tickover quite badly . Pulled the tank cap off to see if there was oil ext in there and it had a bit of pressure , which I believe is normal and the smoke stopped almost instantly ???? But my header tank is not boiling over or being pressurised . The van doesn't appear to smoke when under power just when at traffic lights and clears itself when you drive . It's not under powered of overheating but now the interior heater is stone cold I tried bleeding the system and running some k seal thrue it with no change at all any help would be massively appreciated I'm fairly competent with petrol engines ect just not done a great deal On diesels Thanks again james

It does sound very much like a leak of some sort James. The cold heater suggests to me an airlock.
The white smoke ceasing when you removed the coolant pressure does strongly suggest; "head gasket failure" or cracked head, so a really good flush followed by some K seal has to be worth a try.

Good luck.

Yes, airlock, and thermostat probably, it could be running rich.
