Vito windscreen washer stuck on

Hi guys, I need some help!

I've got a 2011 Vito 113 who's windscreen wipers won't turn off. They are currently controlled by removing the fuse when it's sunny and pulling over to put it back in when it rains.

I've replaced the SAM unit, indicator stalk and wiper mechanism. Still no joy.

I think I've been looking in the wrong place though, the windshield washers are stuck on, every time the ignition is turned on the pump will activate for around 10 seconds then switch off. This happens every time regardless of whether the fuse is in for the wipers.

I can't find any details of which fuse is for the washers, I can disconnect the cable to the pump but the wipers still go constantly.

So my new theory is the SAM is receiving a constant on signal for the washers. I've looked at the wiring diagrams and the EPC but can't figure out where the signal would come from or how the SAM is connected to the wiper stalk.

Any help much appreciated, It's been an ongoing project and I'm determined to get to the bottom of it!

Thanks,
Ben

Checked all the connections and cables? Might simply be a faulty ground.

Hi Marku,

Thanks for your reply. I checked all the connectors and grounds on and around the windshield washer yesterday, there was nothing to indicate any problems.

There's 2 separate output signals being sent to the wipers and the washers from the SAM so I'm convinced the problem is between the indicator stalk and the SAM unit. I'm going to take the steering wheel apart again on the weekend and keep going until I can trace the cable as far as possible to the SAM.

I'm still unable to locate where the indicator stalk is on the wiring diagram:

VITO VIANO+Wiring+Diagrams | Valve | Electrical Connector

It would be a massive help to know the colour of the cable I'm looking for!

Hi mark ,,, just been reading your post regarding wipers won’t turn off and the washers won’t stop on your vito and I have exactly the same problem you have ,,, wondered if you ever got to the bottom of it ,,, many thanks paul

I would be suspecting a relay.

If only ,,, the relay for the washers is internal in the Sam unit but is clearly getting a signal from somewhere to operate it ,,, driving me nuts

Not solved why the rear wiper will not turn off so have pulled the fuse and it can wait for the service. I accept that it is really defeatist of me but anything other than the simplest electrical problem requires hours of my time so it can wait for the workshop. Did fit a new motor and it works fine and the washer is sorted as that had stopped but now it will not turn off and I have given up trying to find the cause.
