2012 - E220
Evening all - I have recently bought a 12 plate E220. The steering wheel has a voice command button but when I press it nothing happens :wallbash::dk:

I found some online videos re voice commands and tried to follow by going through System and try to find some help on Voice Activation but only found Bluetooth, Display, Reset and there was something else.

Does voice commands need special module fitted? I would of thought since the button is there on the steering wheel, it came fitted :(

Do you have an owner's manual? If not, put the details in here Owners Manual: A Go-To Source for Information on your Vehicle | Mercedes-Benz and you will have downloads for owner's and COMAND manual. I can't think why it doesn't work as all we do is push and speak…I don't know if you might have the button and not the Linguatronic module on COMAND; you would need the build sheet to know for sure.

Our gives a little 'Bong' before activating…other than that, being complete witchcraft, I leave well alone! Sorry.

just curious thats all. I strongly doubt it will pick up my funny accent but wanted to give it a try esp if it worked on commanding to navigate to an address while driving rather than fiddling with the knob :p

Not sure what system I have tbh but on System menu, (in no particular order) I have, Bluetooth, Display, Language & Reset.

Is there a seperate module one can/need to fit for voice commads?

You need COMAND satnav system for voice recognition. That is the one which has navigation built in (and not via a module in the glovebox) and a NAV button on it

Richard

Edit: Soundly beaten to it by Richard due to operator error.

Yes.

Try this site to get your build sheet (i.e. what your car has on it) Checking VIN for Mercedes-Benz | CARInfo and if you need parts/repair/retrofit, these are the guys to speak to Mercedes Retrofit Specialist - Comand.co.uk

Wow - at this pace, I am not too far from spending night in the car

I dont have anything in my glovebox except manual and little plastic box with tyre nuts :dk:

Thank you mate. I will look up for VIN number (if I can work out where that is ) and use the buildsheet to find out more! I will report back if I find anything worthy!!

In the little window at the bottom of the screen, on the logbook (V5) or on your paperwork from the dealer.:thumb:

Sorry for that long message - not sure what (if anything) in there is useful to fig out what I have?

Just read those codes and my word, some of things it says in there under SA Codes like HU display, parking guidance - I didn't even know about!! Is HU display is what I think it is? Shows up on your windscreen? I have used NAV in the car last week but didn't see any option about that?

Are these codes std, meaning whatever is listed in there under my VIN should all be there?

This is defo off to a good start :)

Cheers everyone for all your help and input!

Code 525 is the APS 50 Navigation system, which doesn't have Linguatronic.

The reference to HU display is the Head Unit, i.e. the radio / nav unit, and specifically that it's configured to display English language.

Aah, bit of let down but none the less its still awesome toy :) Can I ask if W212 means much when I refer to this car? what is it?

W212 is the identification code for the platform / bodyshell, in this case the current E-Class Saloon. There's a good explanation of the Mercedes-Benz model nomenclature on Wikipedia.

Hi - I just tried flicking the knob by the armrest up, down, left ad right whilst in -

1) radio (FM) - Left and right changed the frequency (same as rotating the knob) Up did nothing and down bought it to 4 Menus (Preset, Info, Sound and something else)

2) Navigation - Left and Right moved the map in the screen and up & Down bought a zoom in circle

Net Net - Still not able to Change Radio from FM -> AM -> LW or move between Navigation <-> Radio <-> CD

Someone help?

This applies to COMAND, but you have Audio-50, so may be wrong ..

Press the Radio button and it will switch between FM/AM/LW each time you press it ? Audio button will switch the audio sources (radio, CD, and others if you have the options)

R
