Vredestein Quatrac

Vredestein tyres come out top or near to it in most of the european car magazine tyre tests. Although i have not used the ones mentioned, I have Vredestein winter tyres which have exceptional grip. If the price is right, go for them.

I have tested these against "summer" tyres on Vredesteins test track....believe me, you would never drive without "winter" tyres in cold weather if you experienced the difference in road-holding and stopping distances.
I have them fitted to my wifes car and I am fitting same when my own are worn.
Your can use all year around, the advatange in adverse weather conditions far outweigh the slight disadvantages in good weather....when do we get that ??

Have driven on winter tyres when I spent 2 seasons working in the alps, so know what difference they can make.....are the Quatrac just a compromise summer and winter or are they a genuine all rounder?
What about wear and mpg?

They are a genuine all-rounder....unsure on wear as relatively new product, but if wear is as good as other Vredestein fitments then it will very good...

Quatrac 3.

Right. My guess is they are in response to Nokians WR G2 tyre which is also an asymetric design Nokian WR G2 If previous manufacturer experience (both) is anything to go by they will offer good mileage and excellent traction in wet/slush/snow at the expense of slightly increased road noise/roughness. Compared to other all weather tyre makes they would err on the traction v comfort side of things

Thanks for reply.....they seem to be a good price at Camskill and probably better suited to the conditions where I am.

I am thinking about fitting the Quatrac 3 to my car when I replace the current Sportrac2 which are down to 2-3mm, after about 30000 miles on the set of four.

I will report on how they compare.

Ohhh.. my Costco Michelins have only managed 9k.........

I tried to source the hankook optimo 4s today but apparently you can't get them in the uk (according to my tyre place who rang hankook uk).

205/60R15 (Inc fitting, disposal, valve, balancing etc)
quattrac 3 = 50 + vat
snowtrac 2 = 78 + vat
snowtrac 3 = 88 + vat

I will go for the quatrac 3 and buy some comtrac winter for my VW Caravelle.

Cheers

Nokian WRG2 or Vredstein Quatrac 3??

They seem very similar......which is best?

Vredestein are widely available in the UK but you may have to go to an overseas supplier like Delticom =MYTYRES based in Germany to get the WRG2s. There is no problem ordering from tyres online @ mytyres.co.uk: cheap passenger, summer, winter tyres and tyre dealer as they are quite efficient i.e. 4/5 days delivery from Berlin. As far as choice is concerned both tyres will offer similar performance IMHO altho the Quatrac 3 is the slightly newer design.

As far as I'm aware, the Nokian WRG2 is a dedicated winter/cold weather tyre whereas the Vredestein Quatrac 3 is an all season tyre, so they cannot be compared. The Vredestein equivalent of the Nokian would be the Wintrac Xtreme's which are exceptional winter/cold weather tyres.

Certainly wouldn't dispute the manufacturers descriptions but I'm sure both tyres could be used all year round. When you look at the tread patterns they are not that far apart in design concept imho ??

Cold weather tyres are for 7C and less, if that is what the Nokian is, I wouldn't use it all year despite the similar tread patterns.

I tried to buy Nokians myself & getting hold of them in the UK isn't always easy, getting reliable info from tyre dealers about them is even harder.

( it is listed as a winter tyre on Nokians web site http://www.nokiantyres.com/tyre?id=10360796&group=1.01&name=Nokian+WR+G2 )

Have now had Vredstein Quatracs fitted to my C270 for about 2 weeks....first trip out I wondered what I had done as they were so slippery, but this just turned out to be the mould release stuff......after a few miles, they are proving to be very grippy in the wet / muddy conditions we have round here and, as far as I can tell, very little difference in handling to the Falken FK452 previously fitted (mind you, I was also getting good grip from those tyres too expect in the mud on side of narrow lanes near me)....no increase in noise and fuel consumption seems to be about the same....

Will continue to monitor

This a interesting Canadian thread which documents all year use of the Nokian WRG2's. I have used Nokian WR's all year round myself with good wear characteristics. I can't speak for the newer design but would be surprised if they were much different . :dk: Michelin X-Ice Xi2 vs Blizzak LM-25 vs Nokian WRG2
