Does anyone know about these engines through direct experience? I've done my homework as I'm a regular on the VW/Audi forum and there seems to be mixed opinions most issues seem to be down to gummed up engines due to sulphur issues in fuel, which is why the introduction of this engine was delayed in the UK as the majority of petrol stations did not have fuel suitable for it.

In the 15 years we had the garage business we never saw an issue on these engines and had plenty of tuned ones in for service.

The reason I am asking is a pal has asked me to try and find his daughter a Golf GT or GTI petrol circa 2006 ish so just doing further homework

All advice and comments welcome as always

TIA

My experience is limited as you know :) It's fun with a turbo on.....

Sorry - I suspect not what you were hoping for

Avoid the 1.4 Supercharged engine like the plague......Very poor engine with a reputation for self destructing. Our local VW dealer kept 4 in stock at any one time. Often they would put a con-rod through the block at surprisingly low mileages.

The later 1.4 Turbo however, is a peach of an engine.

The only problems I've seen on the 2.0FSi engine is with low mileage engines used in stop start traffic which can get gummed up and cause their valves to stick. But to be fair its not been that common. More common are lots of irritating sensor issues on these FSI engines. You fix one and another can come out in sympathy etc etc.

I ran a Revo mapped S3 for a while, no issues at all other than needing a new clutch to cope with the power. Engines seem rock solid.
