I have a friend in the Southampton area that is looking to have a complete respray and some rust sorted on her 1971 Beetle. Can anyone recommend a VW specialist or decent restorer that won't cut corners so it rusts through in six months time? Probably worth Waxoyling if the wings etc are going to come off.

I know of a place in Harwich, a bit of a trek I know, they specialise in MK1 Golfs and Campers I'm sure they would do a beetle too. I don't even know if they are still going but they were really nice guys and had a proper spray oven big enough for a camper and the cars they had done looked top quality...:)

The place was called 2 lane classics but I can't seem to find them on line anymore...:(

EDIT - Just found there card, and the website cannot be found so I guess they have folded...

depending on how far she is going with the restoration now is probably a good time to replace the bottom of the door pillars and heater tubes - it's a big job but it's also a place where they all rot eventually and whilst the car is being resprayed is better than 2 years down the line

I know an excellent chap in Burgess Hill just north of Brighton. He works on all kinds of cars - from pre-1905 London-to-Brighton cars to my W124 estates

Email me if you want his number

I don't think she wants to get carried away - budget £2k max.

Cheers - will give beetlewerks a try.
