W/S212 front spring question.

Do you think the strut assembly I've made today is leaning or the second picture I took yesterday?

This is the one I took off

This one I assembled today and put on the car

Yes it was like the tower of peeza excuse the spelling.

That was a kYB spring on that driver's one I took apart.

My lord, you did that with twin sided spring compressors? Somebody send that man a medal. Impressive. And you're alive! How long did it take?

Thanks.

It took me about 2.5 hours to strip and rebuild and to put it back on the car. I took the passenger side off also today and stripped that one. The weird thing is trying to compress the passenger spring to put it together this evening, it kept sending the drive end of the compressor kit into the base plate of the spring. I tried 3 times to attach the spring compressors in the best place on the spring but it wouldn't have it.

Also the shock is shot on the passenger one I stripped this evening. The shock absorber rod just goes into its housing with ease and just returns upwards very slowly. So I will now need to order a new gas shock.

Cleaned all the strut assembly seats and housing come up really well and in fairly good condition.

It's strange as the spring was shot on the driver's side but the shock was good. But the opposite on the passenger side.

I know people will say, why didn't you change all parts. But I need to work off a budget just now. Been off work for some time. Might need to make a change on a job front 😔.

I bought a Vevor single axis C ring compressor. 100 euro. Comes with three ring sizes. It takes about 5 to 10 minutes per shock. Vevor is becoming a good name. I prefer it to a floor mounted unit. But I salute you. A fine job for minimal expense. You will enjoy the ride.

Would you say it will near on impossible, to attach the top mount plate, to the shock rod as the shock rod has no resistance hardly. I imagine it will keep dropping once I try to tighten the top mount plate.

Thanks for recommending the spring compressor. I maybe should get one of them. As I still need to do the driver's side on the e63 vehicle, that failed mot.

I basically just want to get it all assembled for now, I will replace the shock at a later date. As I know it is well past it's best. I want to free the drive also.

If the shock can't stay up, it's no longer a shock but just a worthless tube. You must replace it. Voila, the compressor. The big C rings are for the Macpherson strut springs. You don't tighten fully the bolts that hold the rings to the compressor screw shaft. They must move to match the coil angle. Just run them in until the c ring will move to the starting angle. Compress three coils. One per ring plus one in between. Do a set and you'll be a pro.

Can shock absorbers be purchased singlely, from Autodoc they have two in the trolley, on every brand.

I only want 1 item at this time!

If budget is an issue why not use KLARNA to spread the cost of your Autodoc purchases ? Fitting one shocker is a non starter :wallbash: :wallbash:

Go to the customer support online. They are excellent. They are now doing over 40,000 orders per day. That says something about their ethic. If they say they can't, it certainly a legal issue.

Just delete one of them in the basket . I bought a single shock from them 2 months ago with no issues
(The one I was replacing was only 18months old ) .

Tried to delete several times. Anyway I've ordered from a different company nations parts direct is it. That should be coming tomorrow. I reassembled if a word 🙄 the old spring and shock on the passenger side. I've test driven it now on the school run, and it's night and day WOW what a transformation. All up and running.

Need to order a spring for 63, fit that, then back in for mot.
