Hi Guys,

Does anyone know where to obtain the tech. specs. of the W107 SLs ? Easy enough to find them for the larger engined versions which is all the mags. ever road tested, but not for the 280/300 etc.

Any brochures which can be downloaded ? There's a German brochure on eBay at present, but not sure whether the German spec. would be the same as ours.

Incidentally, had a wander round Mayfair between meetings on a glorious day last week, was amazed at how many of these older SLs are still around and cherished by wealthy residents !

Thanks,

Anthony

Looking to buy one, but probably after the winter. Have to say, though, that this looks a fairly tempting banger - good colour & not high mileage.
Perhaps a good job I've got no more garage space !

Yes, I expect you're right, Wobbly, but it's a cheap money pit !

Don't worry, wisdom will prevail.

You need to look at the time and costs to to get these problems sorted.

I have mentioned this before, parts for SL's are expensive even if you can find them.
The clips that hold the sunvisors in place were broke on mine, they cannot be bought seperate, and complete sunvisor costing about £250 per side. I managed to get a remanufactured part from the USA, but at £50 for two small pieces of plastic, its not cheap.

Interior parts are also difficult to find.

Bushes and rubbers mounts would probably need replacing, not hugley expensive to buy, but time consuming to fit.

Also no mention of the soft top, so £800 - £1000 to fit.

Its CHEAP for a reason.

Thanks again, Wobbly, for the advice. We had a pagoda SL a few years ago so I'm aware of the parts cost for interior & exterior trim etc., no doubt it's even worse now.

The postman's just brought me The Essential Buyer's Guide' today, so I'll get stuck into that !

Merc Enthusiast used to list all specs for R107s. If you're a prospective owner the best thing you can do is join the MBOC. From memory the R107 is the most common car owned by it's members.

Thanks, 007 and Carl. I'll try and call you, Carl, but tomorrow's chokka with meetings etc., so it may be Friday.

No great rush, anyway, I don't want to do anything until after the winter and also have a car to sell first.
