W108 alternator upgrade?

Hi, my alternator isnt really charging as it should on my '72 280SE 3.5 litre (W108). This is despite a pro rebuild. I thought I may as well replace it so I thought i'd ask if there are any that will fit that have an uprated output as evetually I will be fitting an air-ride set up and dont want to strech a standard one too much. No idea about wiring---- depends on whether your old set up has an external regulator or not. Its also an idea to uprate your alternator to battery wire gauge-- the battery earth cable and the engine to chassis earth cable to avoid voltage drop / overheating with increased current demand.

Thanks Graeme, can I ask where that info comes from? that website says its not compatable but that might just be because output is higher than standard I guess.
