IRRC the W108 has a hydropneumatic load compensator which spans the rear diff- they often go wrong. Some people replace them with springs. see this thread http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/wheels-tyres-brakes-suspension/186546-re-awakening-sleeper.html
