My car would not start last week. I had done a 100 mile journey the previous day with no trouble.
My local garage ( who serviced the car) cannot get it working. They have replaced various sensors, checked the fuel pump, ignition etc.
They have had it running, switched off, could not restart 30 minutes later.
It's a 1996 car with only 110K on the clock and I have owned it for 13 years.
Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

I suggest not using your local garage. Take it to an MB specialist

The usual suspects are crank position sensor (particularly for hot starting failures), MAF, throttle body, ECU & loom

As it's intermittent I'd look at the CPS first

All the engine needs to start are correct timing, compression, fuel, air & a spark. If it won't start, does it have a spark? That's the simplest test in the book and will tell you everything you need to find the problem

They've checked the fuel pump - but why bother if there is no spark?

Specialist called in and traced fault to defunct ignition overload relay.
Thank you for your response.
