Hello all, new member on the site needing some help/advice please.

I was performing a three point turn in my US Spec LHD1968 280SL Pagoda and on changing gear to move forward I lost all drive in the gearbox. Absolutely nothing and moving the gear stick resulted in no response from the transmission whatsoever. There is no resistance when moving the gear lever whatsoever. The car appears to be stuck in park. Had to get her carried back to the house.

My research so far suggests the B2 band may be part of the problem and is apparently a relatively common fault but I cannot find much information on the knock on implications of the B2 band failing may be and what the repair may involve. I am not very knowledgeable at all about auto boxes. Depending on what the problem may be and if my diagnosis is right is it something a reputable gearbox specialist can deal with or does she need to go to a Pagoda specialist. If a specialist can anyone recommend someone in the Essex/Herts Bishops Stortford area?

Really appreciate some help please. She's run faultlessly the last 8 years until this.

Welcome to the Forum.

I assume that the fluid level has been checked and it is not low?

The transmission should be able to be diagnosed and repaired by any experienced Auto transmission specialist.

Why not ask your local garage for recommendations?

Good luck and let us know how you get on 👍👍
