W114 250CE 1972 Refusing to start

Hi I have a 1972 W114 250CE that refuses to start. When I turn the key it starts for a second or two then stalls. Petrol pump runs, petrol pump relay is ok. When the ignition is on, the fuel pump used to run for a second or two to prime then stop until you start the engine but now, when the ignition is on fuel pump stays on! Have you checked there is enough petrol in the tank?
