Looks fabulous. Surprised it has aircon - I'd have thought that was very rare then.

Went to see this motor. Sadly, it was over-enthusiastically described, as often seems to be the case. One wheel arch was badly repaired and rusting beneath again, the air con was inoperative, rust around the edge of front bumper and major rust on the top hidden by the grille, which was itself very badly corroded in one corner and literally crumbling. Car had a poor respray behind the rear licence plate and silver paint all over the rear underside where the ought to have been underseal, suggesting a rear end accident. That said, the engine was very sweet and the interior wonderful: the velour was still dark blue and soft and supportive.

The bidding got to £4800 with nine different account holders (but no-one else had been to see it!) before being pulled days prior to the end. Perhaps someone made an offer he couldn't refuse?

It seems to have been pulled again .

I'd have straightened the star before taking the photos ; in fact I'd have straightened it anyway as I hate to see them askew like that !

I am the person who made the offer to purchase based on the description from the owner. Thank you for your thread as clearly it's not the car that one is led to believe it is. You have saved me a great deal of time thank you. Just goes to prove how our networking on this great site works for us MB guys

I can see why you were tempted by the ad. Thank goodness for the Forum. :thumb:

Hi Barny and welcome to the forum.

I don't think it's a bad car at all. Having seen many w116s it's one of the better ones. But I don't think it's worth anywhere near the £12k buy-it-now price. That kind of money would, as I think the advert does, imply near perfection and be expected of a specialist dealer, not a private individual. I have pointed out flaws that are evident (even on a cursory inspection) with less concentration on what is good, the advert does the opposite: it's up to us as individuals to assess the facts as we perceive them.

I would suggest, if it remains available, you see for yourself.
