A neighbour has a W123 "R" Reg 200 Petrol saloon

Body looks v rust, paintwork not good, interior is a fawn colour - hub caps look great, (i.e. very good) and a few bits look worth saving

Must be a non runner...destined for the scrap yard?

Is it worth anything?

worth £100-£150 depending on whether its a runner or not.

If he wants rid of it, do let me know.

Funny you should say that as there is a W123 200 that I had a quick look at just up the road from me this weekend. It also had the steel wheels / hubcaps.

It was a C reg, full electrics inc sunroof, cloth interior, blue.

Just looked at it from the outside just for the hell of it ....it was an auto, rust around the screens, sunroof, wheelarches, taxed with MOT, and the guy had it up for £950.

The W123 200 is seriously underpowered though, but a doddle to mantain mechanically.

Somebody will probably snap it up and ship it to Africa.

On an 'R plate' it is a very early one as they only came to the UK in 1976 . It will have a few 'early 123' quirks like circular lights .

It will have the old M115 engine too... horrible unit.

But very easy to mantain and bulletproof.

I dont remember it being easy... spent half my life trying to get the carb to work with the engine properly... In the end I gave up and put an M102 in.

Agreed that the carb was a little fiddly to get set up, but again simple mechanics and once done properly it was OK, but needed regular tuning...Their choice of carb for this car was poor. I had one myself for many years but in its 230 form.

There was nothing wrong with the engine itself....underpowered though. In actual fact it was a very tough unit that had been used for many many years in commercial vehicles.

You can't get the mechanics of a vehicle much simpler than these :)

Oh yes I agree for sure.. the engines go on and on and on.. they were also well known in their diesel forms for use in narrowboats.

The carb just needed too much messing with... it was underpowered and drank fuel so when a scrap car with a low mileage M102 engine came up, had to be done..

The old M115 now powers a battered old W123 somewhere in Africa.

Advertise it on Gumtree, make sure you put export in the advert, and it will make £200-£250 or so.
