Mercedes W123 280e
Hi everyone, i'm new to the forum and have recently purchased a lovely 1982 280e.

Great car and been reliable so far. It was in storage for many years and is now being pressed into use as my daily driver.

There is a longish list of issues which over time should be easy to sort out but one issue which i'm keen to sort asap.

Once warmed up the car runs very rich giving some black smoke and carbon deposits out of the exhaust, in traffic I can smell the exhaust fumes and once or twice i've noticed a strong raw petrol smell. The car runs very rough at idle when warmed up and occasionally will stall when idling. The car goes really well when running at normal speeds, has loads of power on kickdown and seems as expected on mpg with around 17mpg around town.

My local mechanic seems to think it's a specialist job to fix it and couldn't improve the situation by fiddling with the mixture screw. Advice please?!?
