Evening all

My painter in Newport has just removed a M110 280e engine and gearbox from a W123. Rather than transporting it back to my guy in Uxbridge, I was wondering if there were any recommendations from the forum for independents around the Newport area?

Before anyone says Mark Kosovich, he’s already too busy!

Looking for a gearbox overhaul and an assessment of work required on the engine, which ran perfectly fine before removal.

TIA

Thing to watch for is to make sure that any engine/ gearbox ancilliarys [ ignition components like coils, transistorised ignition units ballast resistors + assocated wiring come to mind--- fuel injection pumps / filters ---vacuum piping etc ] that are not directly attached to the engine are included from the donor car if at all possible. If its a straight like for like swap to another M110 engined car of the same vintage then this may be less important of course.

I’m not looking to swap the engine and gearbox, I’m looking for an indie in the Newport area that could refurb the gearbox and do whatever is necessary to the engine whilst it’s out of the car.

Sorry misunderstood your request. Auto or manual gearbox? Since these early BENZ are still use fairly standard automotive technology perhaps any all-make classic restoration/autobox specialist could do the job.
A few names to Google?
Gerry Doverman HEREFORD
Merc-Tech SWANSEA
Redcastle Classics CAERPHILLY
Stuttgart Garage PONTYPRIDD
note:- these are merely name links to explore further not recommendations
