Dear All,

as some of you will know, I've just got myself my second W123 (230e 1983), after a twenty year gap. It's pretty much immaculate, but the engine needs a clean.

One thing I've ordered is a passengers' door mirror. God know why, but the owner decided to go for just the drivers' side - blew her budget on the leather interior!

Anyway, a 'mint' secondhand one was snapped up by me for £50. Going rate and I'm happy with the price.

BUT what I'm not happy about is my second prospective purchase:

Underneath the rear lights is a rubber strip. On my first 230e (thistle green), it again, was missing the chrome covering piece. But it did have the wooden dash from the coupe, and power steering, and cruise control, and a sunroof...but no lovely chrome covers to the ugly black rubber bits under the rear lights!

So can some W123 expert shed some light on these pieces. I think the black is horrible, when compared to being chromed.

So after an hour or three trawling UK, NL and DE websites, the best price I got was £100 for the set!!
Like hens' teeth!
Now when I said 'ugly' that's the type of ugly you can live with. No way am I spending that money on two pieces of chromed steel.

Has anyone the same feeiling, and/or come up with a solution.?

Moan over,

Stephen
