Hello everyone,

I currently have an '87 W124 260e saloon and i have been offered a W124 220 station wagon. My concern is that the smaller engine is a little gutless. Has anyone had any experience of this model?

Thanks

Ben

Iv'e had one for a year now and it is perfectly adequate for me. I had a Saab 93 Tid before this and the 124 goes as well as that. it wafts along nicely and cruises comfortably at Motorway speeds. It is brisk enough off the mark,(auto box) but is quite noisy when pushed hard /above 4k rpm. I wasn't expecting it to handle as well as it does either. Obviously it is no sports car and more power is always nice but on today's busy roads its got plenty performance IMHO. (clearly it goes like a rocket compared to my 2CV:D)

That M103 2.6 engine is a peach but the M111 2.2 4 cylinder is tough as old boots. You have to cane it a bit for power as maximum torque comes in about 4,000 but its variable inlet cam and long inlet manifold tract means it will pull nicely from low revs. Manual shift down to third for overtaking and its fine.

Thanks guys... I ended up buying a 300te 4matic which turned out to be a bit of a dog. Every cloud has a silver lining though and after throwing a huge amount of time and money at it, I think I now have probably the best 300te 4matic in the country.
