Hi

I have ordered a replacement OVP relay. The part is superseded by a slight variation. My OVP Relay has (I think ) 5 or 6 Pins and 1 fuse whereas the replacement has all 9 pins and 2 fuses. Will it be ok to use?

Thanks for any advice.

The relays are normally 5/7/9 pin The 5/7 pin variety have one fuse for the whole relay and all the outputs are common. The 9 pin relay is actually a twin channel relay with 2 separate outputs. One fuse is for the whole relay and covers both channels and the other is unique to one of the outputs only. If you have ordered via an MB dealer using your chassis number you should be OK

Not ordered from MB, this was from Euro Car PArts, which involded them cross referencing a number of times, hence my suspicion that it mught be wrong when it had too many pins.

It was faulty (different fault to mine, this one caused hard cold start and no ABS, but cured erratic idle and stalling problem!) and on removal it came apart in my hands. Took it back, replacement one had the same fault as mine, and again, on removal, fell aprt in my hands.

So I have ordered one from MB dealer, fingers crossed, this one will be good!

Hurray! :D

The genuine MB OVP relay sorted my stalling and erratci idle problems with no other problems!

It has 9 pins, the block only has 5 contacts, and the part it is replacing has 7 pins.

So thanks to everyone who has posted regarding erratic idle, stalling issues and OVP relay. Without these posts, I would never have figured it out and now my car is now cured!

Glad you've sorted it mate !

Good work !

RESULT! glad you got it sorted. With things like relays which changed spec over the years its always safer to go with the genuine MB part since you can be fairly certain it will be compatible using your chassis number.
