Hi!

Car was squealing and thought it was the belt.
Loosened the belt via the lower mount on the the Alternator but now the alternator wont fit into the lower mounting. It will fit once the belt is off.

I then opened the tension bolt to see could I loosen the belt, but it make no difference, The belt remains tight.
(From Google searches, one should only move it half a turn but eventually I did several turns with no effect)
I unscrewed the tension adjuster but the pointer remains in the middle if the triangle.

Any ideas from a stressed W124 owner?
Cheers

assuming you mean you undone the tensioner lock nut and then tried to move the tensioner adjuster bolt and it didn’t move then I would say your tensioner is seized.

Athienov Yes something is seized . google this free manual Model 124 Mantenance Manual Index --------------------Then on the first page - click on M103 then item number 14 . Also i found it was a hit or a miss to get the tension right,, so i just turned the adjuster till it was tight but not over tight . .Some times the adjuster is fitted the wriong way, and adjusting it damages the adjuster .Also the plastic or nylon pointer fits about any place you put it so i thought pretty poor idea .
