W124 300-24 strangeness after complete renewal of fuel pump pack.

Just to keep us all guessing, I went for a 25 Km drive this afternoon.

Engine started after 1.5 seconds of churning (I expect instant start). Thereafter, normal, smooth idle.

Then 100% faultless under all conditions. It really feels like a new car.

I came back and ran all blink codes. No errors.

Having the front wheel bearings replaced soon at close to half a million Kms.

Ray i only found out yesterday, that the exhaust down pipes are still in mild steel so is the centre bux ,but the rest is in stainless steel . And its like new after 25 years other than the mild part of it .. So all i need for now is the centre box only in mild steel for the MOT test . Had to call off the visit to the garage this afternoon ..I forgot we had a shopping delivery due from Sainsburys ...so re schedueled for Friday .Enjoy your evening ...Trev

Ray Update i drove around for a time yesterday , but it took some time to clear ...Might be air lock or crap in the system. .I did cut open the old fuel filter ..Material looked clean inside, but on the bottom wa some fine sand .I will ppst a picture later on . ..I have no idea why MB put the fuel filter after the fuel pumps do you?

I can only assume it's because you have a fairly fine strainer in the tank, before the pumps.

But that doesn't really answer your question.

I replaced this filter today. On the fuel distributor. Dead easy. Remains to be seen if it's made any difference but performance on a 50 Km run this morning was faultless.

the new flow devider before you fitted it ? could you see a filter i it ?
I inspected it but it had no filter in it. The filter is not part of the fuel distributor replacement. I learned this from a chap called sbeart on a US forum.

More on this anon.

Ray but so many say its a filter .It needs sorting out first as last . Its a flow devider on my car .I could not remove the one in my FD its locked in solid,,But i do have a new one ,had it for 2 years now .My guy at the dealears told me there is no filter on my FD .

Fuel divider is another way of saying fuel distributor. I'm pretty sure of that. Kraftstoffverteiler translates into both fuel divider and distributor.

Once I'd got the air filter off, it was a 5 minute job to remove and replace the filter.

No change with new filter.

I even installed a different fuel pump relay (integrated in the MAS box on the M104 engine). No change.

Ray just had a thought .....Whats the gas tank cap seal like Ray?. it could be letting out the pressure it needs in the tank ?.. mine was split all over the place .Waiting for a new one to come .The price from a seal is like arm and a leg, so i purchased an aftermarket cap to remove the seal from ..Just hope it works it will save a fair bit if i dose ..new caps arte £160 ..Trev
