Hi, possibly seeking the impossible - I'm looking for a good condition W124 series 300-24v or 320 estate with the sports chassis.
Ideally the car would have the five speed auto 'box, but I appreciate this is narrowing the field yet further!
If anyone knows of one please let me know.
Thanks.

Hi Bolide,
Budget is up to £8k, possibly more for a real corker.

Thanks Adile - I saw that... Recently bought a 300TE-24v off ebay but on further inspection the rear subframe needs to be dropped, SLS refreshed completely, dampers renewed, all the bushing sorted, etc, etc.. closing in on £3k to sort rear suspension alone so I'm keen to find a very clean one if they exist.

I have never seen such a poor leather seat on a W124 of that mileage before. I take that as a symptom of a car that has been badly looked after by someone who didn't really care.

On the plus side for the e-bay car - it does look like Sportline leather. 'Agree that the bolster is really bad. That car makes mine look good.

I was including other sportlines in that statement!

Hi

£8k will find what you want IMO.

Just get the insured value correct once in your possession.

Good luck with finding the right one - am sure you will.

Thanks Adile.
Just having difficulty finding a suitable car. They seem to be few and far between. I guess patience is an essential part of the search but if anyone knows of any decent independent dealers please recommend!

Hi Mikeybbb, I'm considering selling my s124 e320 to make way for a SEC. It's been a rolling restoration project of mine over the last two years. Big recent spend. Send a message if you want any further information.

Hi HarryK,
That sounds interesting.
What's the specification?
Michael

It's a high specc'd car, 1995 e320 estate 4spd, that had one owner from new until I got it in 2013 with 160k (approx). It's Azurite blue with mushroom leather. It has heated electric seats with memory (x2), cruise, a/c, rear parking sensors, alarm and I've upgraded the speakers with Infinity items and fitted a DAB stereo. Wheels are the sportline spec 8-holes.

Since then I've spent approx £5k on a full mechanical rolling restoration, and have been prepping for a full respray and new windscreen in September by buying up parts: £500 in rubber seals alone!. The mechanical work included the head gasket (as a preventative measure) and wiring loom, along with almost all of the suspension all round. New brakes all round, gearbox and diff oil changed, good Continental tyres. Recently had 2 window regulators replaced. It sits at the sportline ride height but is otherwise standard. Now on 179k.

The car is driving beautifully now, so smooth and with great ride quality. Once the bodywork and leather is refurbed, it will be one of the best out there. The car is booked in with a shop in Newcastle, who has done a fellow enthusiasts cars with excellent results: a s124 he did went on to go on display in MB world in Brooklands.

I have a figure in mind for it to go as it is, or for when it's completed. It'll be no hardship to keep it, but the 560 is an itch I want to scratch!

PM for more info and pics or email [email protected]

Hi HarryK,
Thanks for the reply. Sounds a great spec but I am really after a car with sportline chassis as I have owned both and really enjoy the extra control the sport line has.
Michael

I know someone with a 300TE-24 sportline. It's a dogleg manual though with cloth and left hand drive so doubt it's of any interest?
