W124 320 Catalyst.

The exhaust catalyst on my 93 W124 320 Cabriolet has failed and needs changing. Merc are asking c£1k which is a little excessive I feel.

I have found a few "suitable" replacements but haven't a clue about quality of choices or names to look out for re OEM parts.

Can anyone give me a steer re possible quality sources & parts based on experience.

How do you know it has gone - they are very reliable on 124.

I am on original at 194,000+ miles

Definitely failed - had it on a lift & it's rattling like no tomorrow.

It's looks like its original and the cars covered 175k.

I have managed to establish that Eberspacher were one of the original OEM suppliers but they no longer list it as available, although they do still supply the back half of the exhausts for most W124's.

Otherwise it's very cheap pattern stuff from Vortex and the like which may be the only alternative but I was hoping to get some feedback on a decent supplier plus part quality/longevity from someone who has already replaced theirs.

I've got the very same problem on my 202 C200 and nobody seems interested in quoting to sort it ! It's a very sound car in most other respects. Good luck with yours.
