Hi guys, I am going to look at the following car tomorrow,

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1994-M-Merced...286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66:2|65:10|39:1|240:1318

and would welcome some advice on what to look for, or any particular advice if anyone knows this particular car.

I have had several w124s, indeed still have a e220 convertible, and a c36amg which was a fantastic car, but know absolutely nothing about the w124 amg.

I like to think I know a bad car when I see one, but what foibles do these have? Also, what does anyone think of the price, it is advertised elsewhere for £6750 which I am taking as the starting price.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated.

I don't want to make an expensive blunder.

Thanks

Was really hoping to get some technical advice on this particular model if anyone know anything

AFAIK they have the same foibles as the e320 range - so rust spots, engine wiring loom, head gasket, some 5 speed auto reliability issues - not aware of anything specific to the e36.
IMHO this looks a lot of money for a 120k mile car.
I also think there were more than 29 of them sold.

C124 prices seem all over the place at the moment so the price really depends on how keen you are to own an E36. At that price I'd expect it to be in pretty good fettle inside and out with everything working and have a decent history including recent receipts.

My 5 speed autobox is running fine at 72k and 18 years, I changed the ATF 18 months ago - drive the car and make your mind up.

Aka$h had an E36 saloon, perhaps he could chip in, from a couple of years of browsing on here and elsewhere I don't recall any specific issues with the E36 outside of the usual E320/W124 foibles as mentioned..

If you do buy it, keep it original ;o)

I dont believe the W124 AMG E36's came with 5 speed auto nor was it an option as the 4 speed box was much tougher and reliable to handle the torque and power.

You might be right about that, I think my c36 amg was only 4 speed, but I might be wrong

Went to see it, quite rusty and very poor respray sadly, generally quite tired and unloved with a rattle/rumble from the top of the engine, hey ho

Shame:(
