Only had the motor a week: but find that this '95 E220 (W124) has 8 hole 16" alloy rims - which look - almost - correct ?
Handbook gives tyre sizes for a 15" rim .
Clearly the last set of tyres followed the handbook narrowest width advice as they are 195s, but look over stretched to the rims width , in my 'umble . . . .

    Any advice about :
    a) what tyre size to fit on these 16s , that won't catch anything ?
    b) Any real value to such 16" 8:hole rims ? They can't be MB OEMs ?
    c) who knows what about such an alteration ?
    d) Cant see that the car was supplied with these - or maybe I'm wrong  ?

    a) need to know the width of the wheels to suggest ideal tyre sizes...
    b) they could be genuine MB, 16" 8 holes (alamak) were made in several different widths and offsets/ET. The information should be cast into the back of 'em somewhere along with a part # for example B 6 647 0089 which is 16 x 7.5" et41
    c) ?
    d) Doubt it was supplied new with them...

    Generalising, the standard sizes were 15 x 6.5" ET49 IIRC with 195/65r15 tyres while the sport chassis/sportline got 15 x 7" ET41 with 205/60r15
Several other optional wheels were also available, fairly typical sizes for a 16 x 7 or 7.5 wheel would be 205 or 215/55r16 which keeps the rolling circumference of the tyre as close as possible to origional. They shouldn't rub unless the ET is very wrong. If 195 tyres look properly stretched then someone may have fitted a set of r129 wheels which are 16 x 8 et34 IIRC and would be more prone to rubbing with the correct size tyres IME

Agree with above, the correct approved offset for 16" rims is 46 mm except for most V8 models.
AMG approve 37 mm but require front guard rolling and spacing, with the rear requiring rolling only for it to be an approved fitment.
The only 16" 8 hole 124 four or six cylinder "approved to fit as is" part number is B6 647 0069. If anybody has a set of these I am very interested - will pay well.

The W210 came with 16" x 7.5J ET41. They fit straight on the W124 and do not catch the arches.

    wheel sizes

Many Thanx folks - looks like a weekend under the car checking I might even have a matching set of part # wheels . I like the 8 holes the best , & 16 looks OK - I think the 195s are too tall - so maybe moving to 215x55 will be the most acceptable option .
    Thanx again <t
