Just wanted to share this issue and fix. I have had the occasional symptom of the ABS light coming on especially when reaching (ahem!) 70mph. The light remains on until I bring it to a halt and switch off. Additionally when driving slowly in town as I brake slowly to come to a halt I can feel a few pulses from the ABS unit in the last few metres of travel. I decided to examine the front ABS sensors. Drivers side came out OK and had some chunks of rust magnetized to it's tip. In trying to undo the near side ABS sensor retaining bolts they both snapped off:wallbash:. Again the sensor tip was covered in rust gravel. The inner splash shields on both sides had been reduced to metal lacework by corrosion. I decided that a general derusting, repainting of hubs along with replacement of shields was in order. I managed to obtain the shields from the only place that I could find that still supplies them, TE-taxiteile.de in Berlin, Germany: apparently they are a parts supplier for taxis, and they did a ruthlessly efficient job of getting the parts to me:). The front hubs have to be removed to take off the old shields and fit the new ones. After chiseling off masses of rust and giving everything a severe rotary wire brushing I gave everything a coat of hammerite. The hubs have an inner band of tiny ribs that are monitored by the tip of the ABS sensor. Rust can almost obliterate these so a good wire brushing got them clean and bright again. I managed to extract the above mentioned broken off bolt threads from the steering knuckle and have rebuilt everything using stainless steel Allen bolts. I no longer have any issues with ABS lights and no last minute juddering from the brake system as I come to a halt:thumb:
